TUTORED ITALIAN WINE-TASTING DINNER: THE WINES OF PUGLIA AND THE SOUTH.
The Savile Club Wine Committee has invited Ben Robson of the Bat and Bottle, the well-known boutique Italian wine importers to be our “tutor” and guide for this evening’s tasting and dinner.
Ben co-founded the Bat and Bottle with his wife, Emma, in 1994. Ben’s two passions are cricket and Italian wine – hence the company’s name. He was the inaugural winner of the London Wine Fair’s ‘Online Specialist Wine Buyer’ award and Bat and Bottle has been both Winner (2021) and Runner-up (2022) for Italian Specialist in the Decanter Retailer awards. Ben is a senior judge for the Decanter World Wine Awards and a regular face at Vinitaly. In the wintertime he works from Piemonte.
Ben will be presenting wines from Puglia and the South, covering White Grape varieties Fiano, Greco, Falanghina and the Reds: Aglianico, Negro Amaro, Nero di Troia, Primitivo, Piedirosso.
This dinner is another Italian-themed evening proposed by your Wine Committee. The characterful wines of Puglia and the South have grown in sophistication and technical quality and are now “go-to” wines to look for on a restaurant list.
Ben will be offering the wines we shall be tasting at a special Savile Members’ price.
