Social Events

Being a sociable institution the Club’s year is enlivened by a series of events at which Savilians and their guests congregate.

There are lunches and dinners for young members, old members, prospective members, fathers’ sons and daughters dinners, gourmet dinners and of course the great Christmas Dinner and the Summer Barbeque.

Running parallel is a wide range of events reflecting members’ interests and providing the opportunities of stimulating conversation to flourish.

There are discussion lunches with newly published authors and literary evenings with The University of East Anglia School of Creative Writing. Recent guests have included Ian McEwan, Michael Holroyd and Andrew Motion.

We have also been privileged to hear opera, a big band, chamber music and jazz in the Ballroom, as well as an excellent series of cabaret evenings and talks by the great and good of television, radio and politics.

Thankfully there is no such thing as a typical year in the Savile’s calendar.
