RECITAL BY PETER FISHER (VIOLIN) AND MARGARET FINGERHUT (PIANO)
Peter Fisher has played as a soloist worldwide both touring and appearing as a headline artist on cruise ships. He has notched up something like 100 appearances in Canada alone. He directs and records with the Chamber Ensemble of London. Their CDs have had hundreds of broadcasts, especially on Classic FM.
He and Margaret Fingerhut first played together at a Malcolm Arnold commemorative concert at the Savile Club. They teamed up at the suggestion of the Ensemble’s composer-arranger Clive Jenkins, who was devising programmes to celebrate Arnold on behalf of the Malcolm Arnold Trust. Arnold was a real Savile ‘character’ so the Club was an obvious choice of venue for the recital. Clive also devised a whole orchestral programme called ‘Sir Malcolm at his Club’ featuring the great man’s contemporaries, Savile members all.
Peter and Margaret were the Malcolm Arnold Society’s natural choice to record all his violin and piano music on the Arnold Celebration Centenary CD (SOMM Recordings). This has been very favourably reviewed (“.a real joy” – David Mellor, Daily Mail) and widely broadcast.
Much in demand as a recitalist, Margaret is also involved in charity work. She most recently collaborated with a young Ukrainian filmmaker to create a video to raise funds for British-Ukrainian Aid. You can see it – just Google Ukraine Will Rise Again! Before that, she raised £88,000 for refugees – that’s £1,000 for each key on the piano.
Peter and Margaret are delighted to be back at the Savile with another programme centred on some of the lighter items in Arnold’s huge output.
