EARLY EVENING CONCERT – THE BERLINSKY CONNECTION

A concert and short talk celebrating the life of Valentin Berlinsky (1925 – 2008), by his descendants.  Berlinsky was the ‘cellist of the world famous Borodin String Quartet for over 60 years; his life and times as a leading musician in Soviet Russia have recently been chronicled in the just-published biography ‘Valentin Berlinsky – A Quartet for Life’ by his grand-daughter Macha Matalaev.

Performers:

Ludmila Berlinskaya (Valentin’s daughter), piano

Arthur Ancelle, piano

Dmitri Berlinsky (Valentin’s grandson), ‘cello

Castalian String Quartet

Works by Schumann, Rachmaninoff, Medtner, Shostakovich and Bizet.

N.B. The early start time of this event is an experiment, and the fact that we are not offering the usual dining option, are both experiments.  If the format proves popular, further early evening events will be scheduled.  There will be an opportunity to purchase the biography.
