FEZ DINER

Ahlan wa sahlan. The Honourable Society of the Fez is delighted to announce that the countdown has begun for this autumn’s great annual gathering of the fezzes. We look forward to welcoming all Savile members (and prospective club members) to our fez-tivities on the 8th of October 2025. This might be the right time to dust off your fez, inspect it for moth holes, and ensure that the tassel remains pristine (or, in the case of a nameless member, who when in a state of ‘enlightenment’ gave his fez to a taxi driver, buy a new one!).

Over the last twelve months, the Three Pashas and club Effendis have kept their fingers on the pulse of world fez-dom. Notable achievements include the acquisition of a golden fez made by the hatmaker appointed to the Nizam of Hyderabad and the diplomatic mission carried out by Pasha Tom McDavid to Australia, where a symposium was held over barrels of wine with Pasha Simon Seear and members of the Melbourne Savage Fez Club. A special mention for services to the fez also needs to be given to Dervish Tony Richards, who undertook a lone wolf quest to Amsterdam and introduced the fez to our Dutch reciprocal, the Royal Industrieele Groote Club. 

This year, Chef Michael will be preparing another sumptuous 1001 Nights-inspired feast that will be fit for a Sultan, and Dervish Jonathan Royals will be choosing the nectar on which we shall delight. As the evening progresses, the society will be addressed by our historian, Dervish Marcus Potter, who will tell us about an illustrious 19th-century member of this club who helped locate the source of the Nile – Sir Samuel Baker Pasha (whose photo accompanies this notice). We will also bring to you all a remarkable demonstration of the speed of Darwinian evolution, as the rear end of our Club Camel, Dervish-Camel Sam Casey, has agreed to impart a few words of wisdom.  All attendees should be aware that Efendi Stephan von Schilling and Efendi Tom McClintock will ensure that fez-equette is maintained throughout our proceedings and that fines will be issued.
