SAVILE PREMIERES: JOHN SCOTT AND FELIX RIGG

We are delighted to present an evening dedicated entirely to new works by two of the Savile Club’s most beloved composers, John Scott and Felix Rigg. The concert begins with Felix Rigg’s String Quartet No 1, performed by the Chamber Domaine Quartet. Saxophonist Mick Foster will then give the premiere of two pieces for saxophone and piano by Felix Rigg, accompanied by the composer himself. Finally, we’ll hear John Scott’s Savile Saxophone Quintet, written expressly for the club, for which Mick Foster will be joined by the Chamber Domaine Quartet.

Mick Foster studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. He has since worked extensively in the fields of jazz, commercial and classical music as a saxophonist, clarinettist and composer. He has played and recorded with a wide range of musicians including Stan Sulzmann, Michael Garrick, The London Jazz Orchestra, Alan Barnes, Issie Barratt, Digby Fairweather and the Back To Basie Orchestra.  He has also worked with John Dankworth and Cleo Laine, Mark Lockheart, Guy Barker, Ginger Baker, The London Philharmonic Orchestra and English National Opera, as well appearing on many film and TV soundtracks. He has released four albums under his own name.

As a composer, Mick has written for various jazz and classical ensembles and his music has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3. His pieces are on both the ABRSM and Trinity College exam syllabuses.

Mick teaches at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Under it’s artistic director, Thomas Kemp, Chamber Domaine has become internationally recognised for its virtuosity and its ambitious and distinctive approach to programming – illuminating the music of the 20th and 21st centuries. A project based ensemble, its programmes feature outstanding musicians that bring passion and commitment to a diverse repertoire that makes the music of today come alive whilst placing it into its historical context.  In a recent review The Times praised the ensemble for its “superb artistry.”

Chamber Domaine has worked with many renowned contemporary composers and has given World and territorial premiers in numerous concerts and recordings including world premieres of Mark-Anthony Turnage, Brian Elias, Judith Weir, Judith Bingham, Ned Rorem, Arvo Part, Britten and Bridge.  Their recent recording of the Mozart Flute Quartets was YLE Album of the Year.  Forthcoming recordings include Stravinsky – The Soldiers Tale and the world premiere recording of the salon version of Strauss – Der Rosenkavalier.

Chamber Domaine are in demand at leading festivals and concerts series in the UK, Europe and North America and have regularly appeared at the Wigmore Hall and Southbank Centre. The ensemble has developed groundbreaking residencies at the Victoria and Albert Museum, The Imperial War Museum, Gresham College and Bargemusic, New York.

Since 2011, Chamber Domaine has been resident ensemble for Music@Malling giving concerts and delivering year-around outreach that has engaged thousands of young people from across Kent in creative activities – building audiences from scratch and introducing new music to new audiences.
