Music is all around us, in shops, restaurants, homes, cars, concert halls, churches, football terraces.  It has an extraordinary power to compel us to dance, move us to tears, even lure us into love. Why is it that music has such a hold on our emotions? How is it that our favourite songs can so easily trigger important memories of friends and family? Why is that songs get stuck in our head? Drawing on her own extensive research, neuropsychologist Professor Catherine Loveday will provide a fun and fascinating explanation of the inextricable link between music and memory.

Dr Catherine Loveday is a Professor of Neuropsychology at the University of Westminster. Her research focusses on the brain basis of both music and autographical memory. Catherine appears regularly as an expert psychologist in television and radio programmes, and was the resident expert for BBC Radio 3’s “Music and Memory” weekend, held in collaboration with the Wellcome Trust. She is passionate about public engagement with science and appears regularly at festivals, as well as writing for the media and making regular appearances on BBC Radio 4’s All In The Mind. She is also author of “The Secret World of the Brain”.
