SAVILE SCIENCE – TOBY KENDALL ON OCEANOGRAPHY AND ITS PLASTIC POLLUTANT.CHAIRED BY SAVILIAN CLIFF COLLIS.

Team peninsula rowed unassisted 3000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean as part of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge 2021 in order to support the fight against the devastating effect that plastic pollution has on our oceans. The campaign to reduce plastic is marred by myth and legend. Team Peninsula’s campaign was an education in not only navigating the stigma of plastic pollution and climate change but the ocean itself.

Toby Kendall will talk about the challenges of the row, physical and mental and our experience and education about the true damage plastic plays on marine wildlife and what we can do at the grassroots level to impact behavioural change to protect one of the most fragile environments the world has to offer.

Toby Kendall is a former British army officer who now works for De La Rue in Africa and the Middle East. He joined two friends to take part as a trip in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge to drive impactful change in the fight against marine plastic pollution. He has had the privilege of varied adventures from his time in the military to climbing Kilimanjaro and beyond.

He is an avid traveler who has tried to explore as much of the beauty the world has to offer, especially that which is isolated from the population dense centres that have such a wide reaching impact on what remains of our beautiful planet.
