THE ELGAR SINGERS

The group is led by Jane Metcalfe, music educator, fixer and choir leader/conductor.

The English composer Edward Elgar was a most distinguished member of this club from 1919 to 1928.

On the occasion of the anniversary of Elgar’s birth, we are happy to welcome a distinguished group of singers drawn from some of London’s most accomplished chamber choirs to perform a programme of unaccompanied vocal music built around Elgar and his contemporaries, almost all of whom were also members of Savile’s.

It is unfortunate that we can’t include all of the amazing composers who were members of Savile’s, These include Roger Quilter1877-1953, Herbert Howells 1892-1983, Sir Malcolm Arnold 1921-2006 and Sir William Walton 1902-1983. They are well known for their film music, church music, solo songs, chamber and orchestral works. Luckily, Elgar, Parry, Stanford wrote many beautiful works for unaccompanied voices, as did their contemporaries Holst, Finzi, Britten, Vaughan Williams and Barber, whom we are delighted to include in our programme. We do hope you will enjoy this evening showcasing the rich and varied vocal music of the esteemed composers and members of the Savile Club.
